- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cream, adding garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until thickened.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a buttered baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes and sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cheese sauce, and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let stand for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Make sure to slice the potatoes evenly for even cooking. You can mix different types of cheese for added flavor.
