Description

A quick and saucy Chinese Beef and Broccoli recipe that’s better than takeout, made in one skillet in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp peanut or vegetable oil

1 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp baking soda (optional)

1 head broccoli, cut into florets

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 tsp ginger, minced

1/2 cup beef or chicken stock

2 tbsp oyster sauce

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tsp brown sugar

1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

1. Marinate beef with soy sauce, oil, and cornstarch for 10 minutes (add baking soda if using tougher cut).

2. Mix sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth.

3. Steam broccoli in skillet with 1/4 cup water for 1–2 minutes, then remove.

4. Heat oil, sear beef in single layer 30 seconds per side.

5. Add garlic and ginger, stir briefly.

6. Return broccoli, pour in sauce, cook until thickened.

7. Serve hot over rice.

Notes

For gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce and dry sherry instead of Shaoxing wine.

Add chili oil or red pepper flakes for spice.
