Description

Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, Chinese Meat Pies, or Xian Bing, are a delicious dish perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup hot water
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • 200g ground beef or pork
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour with the hot water and cold water to form a dough. Knead until smooth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the ground beef or pork, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a circle.
  4. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each circle, fold in half, and seal the edges.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the meat pies until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  6. Serve hot.

Notes

Serve with a dipping sauce or alongside steamed vegetables or a light salad. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
