Description

A delightful comfort food that combines tender pork chops with tangy sauerkraut and a hint of sweetness from apples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 center cut pork chops
  • 2 pounds sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 large red apple, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large nonstick skillet, heat over medium-high heat and brown the pork chops on both sides for about 5 minutes each.
  3. Transfer the browned pork chops to a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, mix together the drained sauerkraut, diced apple, chopped onion, brown sugar, and caraway seeds.
  5. Spread the sauerkraut mixture evenly over the pork chops and cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  6. Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the pork reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  7. Serve the dish hot directly from the baking dish.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the pork chops in your favorite spices or a bit of mustard before cooking. You can also add sliced carrots or potatoes for extra vegetables. If you prefer a crispy texture, uncover the dish during the last 10 minutes of baking.
