Description
A fun and creative naked cake that showcases rich chocolate layers, perfect for basketball-themed celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Cookies for decoration
- Fondant for basketball accents (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla and buttermilk.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and let cool completely on wire racks.
- Once cooled, stack the cakes without icing in between for the ‘naked’ look.
- Decorate the top with cookies and add fondant basketball accents if desired.
