Description

A delightful dessert combining chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors, inspired by Neapolitan ice cream.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup pureed strawberries
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the vanilla.
  6. Divide the batter into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain (vanilla), add cocoa powder to the second bowl (chocolate), and mix in the strawberry puree (and food coloring if desired) to the third bowl (strawberry).
  7. Pour each batter into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cool, stack the layers: vanilla on the bottom, chocolate in the middle, and strawberry on top. Frost as desired.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better texture. Use a serrated knife to level the cake layers.
