Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded Old English cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

2. Make the Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  3. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.

3. Assemble the Pizza

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter.
  3. Transfer to a pizza stone or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Spread an even layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border.
  5. Sprinkle Old English cheese and mozzarella evenly over the pizza.
  6. Lightly drizzle olive oil over the top and sprinkle dried oregano.

4. Bake the Pizza

  1. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing.

5. Serve and Enjoy!

Slice your Old English Pizza Philadelphia and enjoy its rich, cheesy goodness!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, pre-bake the crust for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  • If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add a pinch of brown sugar.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Reheat in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes for the best texture.
