Description
A festive and colorful cake traditionally enjoyed during Mardi Gras, customizable with various fillings.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Purple, green, and gold colored sugar for decoration
- Optional: cinnamon, pecans, or cream cheese filling
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter over low heat until warm, then stir in sugar and yeast. Let sit until bubbly.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, eggs, vanilla, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and combine to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
- Roll out the dough into a long rectangle, add any filling if desired, and form it into a ring. Place on a baking sheet and let rise again.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden. Decorate with colored sugar while still warm and hide a small surprise inside!
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature; great with coffee or hot chocolate. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
