Description
A delightful treat that combines the flakiness of croissants with the comforting texture of bread, perfect for breakfast or as a light dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups cold unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture. Knead the dough until smooth.
- Shape the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, place cold butter in the center, and fold the dough over to encase the butter.
- Roll out again into a larger rectangle and fold like a letter, then refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
- Shape the dough into croissants and place on baking sheets.
- Let rise until doubled, about 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Ensure butter is cold for flaky layers. You can add fillings like chocolate chips or ham and cheese if desired.
