Description

A delightful treat that combines the flakiness of croissants with the comforting texture of bread, perfect for breakfast or as a light dessert.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups cold unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture. Knead the dough until smooth.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, place cold butter in the center, and fold the dough over to encase the butter.
  5. Roll out again into a larger rectangle and fold like a letter, then refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
  7. Shape the dough into croissants and place on baking sheets.
  8. Let rise until doubled, about 60 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Brush with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure butter is cold for flaky layers. You can add fillings like chocolate chips or ham and cheese if desired.
